Xin’an, the ancient name of Huangshan City, is known as Huizhou in the past. If the spectacular Mount Huang is compared to a generous lady of a noble family, then the beautiful Mount Jiu Long of Huangshan City is like a pretty and cute girl of a common family. Hills at Mount Jiu Long are beautiful and graceful. The scenery here is really elegant and distinct. Hills at Mount Jiu Long are high and upright, just like huge walls. Giant rocks spreading at random, forests interlaced with others, waterfalls falling down the mountains, the whole scenery looks like an ink painting scroll. The high mountain, long flowing water and green forest, the comfort and leisure of living in landscape gardens is well presented in this beautiful and perfect picture.
The six words inscriptions (which means Xin’an Great Landscape) on Mount Jiu Long are written by Zhu Xi, the great master of Confucianism in Southern Song Dynasty. The engraved words are eleven meters high and fifty meters wide, occupied the best visual place of the hill. No matter watched from any corner, the carved stone shows the state of grand power and grandeur, making people feel their mind clear and vast. Beside the mountain, there are inscriptions written by famous ancient Xin’an painters, which enable us to recall talents in the past. Celebrity style is sent out from the writing as well as power and vigor is expressed out, which seems like of the meaning to prosper local culture.
Green peaks spread here and there, having no spirit without flowing water. The up hanging waterfall drops down from the hill formed a winding flowing trend. In the sunshine, all of what you see and hear is beautiful, such as the wave becoming gold, the fog flowing slowly, and the wave streaming rapidly. Clear streams flow in the mountain shone upon the scenery all around. Here also is the source of Xin’an River, implying the meaning of “running a long course from a remote source”.
By sunset, walking along a winding path hidden in the forest, you can clearly feel serenity of the forest, hear sweet singing of the bird, smell delicate fragrance of wild flowers, and see luxuriant growing of the tree. After visiting the bamboo and forest, a pavilion beside the lake can be vaguely seen. Stepped into it watching the quickly flowing spring water, people can’t help thinking of the famous sentence said by Confucius when he was in the same situation, which is “the departed time will never come back, just like the stream that will not stop flowing day and night.” Moreover, people can be totally lost in nature when enjoying the singing of birds and the sound of flowing water, forgetting all the troubles and sorrows in daily life.
